High Tech Address Book

Since qball.org has not had a DL in some time, we thought why not dump one on our readers now? Well, this week's DL allows you to keep in touch with all of your friends, families, job recruiters, co-workers, and enemies. Plaxo is a tool which allows you to accomplish this with ease.

How outdated is some of your contact information in your address book? Is it complete? What if it is wrong? Plaxo is a tool that answers all these questions, and then some, for your outdated address book. It smoothly integrates and operates with Outlook or Outlook Express to help with contact information. Basically, Plaxo gets that contact information straight from the source, the actual contact. This application sends a request to a chosen contact to verify and edit if necessary, the contact information you currently have.

There are several great features that I found out while using this DL. To name the neat ones only:

  • You can choose which contacts you want to request information.
  • You can provide only your business information, only your personal information, or both to the contact
  • There is tracking for each request sent, telling you who has updated and who might still need to reply
  • If someone else is using Plaxo, both of your contact information will remain updated automatically

The interface (buttons and stuff) is high quality, and there are no outstanding bugs in this program. The only dilemma I have heard from some certain individuals is the act of passing contact information over the internet, but Plaxo's privacy is stated and restated they respect and practice keeping your information safe. Also, any email is sent across the same cable lines. Before getting into a heated debate with myself, I see this service as a convenience to be kept up to date with my contacts and their information.

Plaxo is a great little DL tool to help you stay in touch with all your friends, or spy on your enemies. Either way, it is free, so give it a try for a little while, you can't hurt anything, unless everyone out there wants to hurt their enemies. But I do not promote such violence (just talk behind their backs).
